Excessive heat

In answer to the question, is it a bad idea to install the TV above the fireplace? In the first place, we must say that installing a TV above the fireplace is generally not recommended; Because of the high heat generated, they damage the electronics. The wall at the top of the fireplace is often warmer than other walls in the house, and you should keep in mind that a gas fireplace can generate between 20,000 and 35,000 BTU of heat per hour. However, heating a 1,400-square-foot home during a typical winter requires only 15,000 BTU per hour.

To make sure of this, attach the thermometer to the wall in the approximate center of the area where your flat-screen TV is installed. Then turn on the fireplace and let it run for several hours, then check your thermometer. If the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit, your chosen location for the TV is too hot. If the temperature stays below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, this is a safe place to install a TV.
